Buying Breast Milk Online
Gillian Stewart, Monday, March 30, 2015

Having read this article in The Times newspaper last week, entitled 'Warning over risks of buying breast milk', I feel I must urge any mother considering buying breast milk online for their baby to think very, very carefully.

I can understand the feeling of failure as a mother when you are unable to breastfeed your baby. Pressure on mothers to breastfeed is huge these days and it can often lead to the wrong choices and decisions.

As part of my training at the Norland College in the 1970s, I worked in a hospital on the premature baby unit. These tiny babies were tube fed with donated frozen breast milk. Times have changed and with easy access to online shopping, we cannot be so sure of the safety of donated breast milk for our little ones. The health of our babies shouldn't be put at risk.

As parents, we need to make the right choices for our children, taking into consideration all the facts that we have. If there is a safer option then that is the one that should be explored first.
