Little Routines, Gillian Stewart

Summer Night Time
Gillian Stewart, Friday, June 19, 2015
Summer is here and so is the warm weather. It somehow gives us all a spring in our step when we see the sun shining!

As much as we all love the warmer weather, babies can be very miserable if they are too hot.

It is easy to remember to dress your baby in cool cotton clothing during the day but we tend to forget to do the same at night.

Now is the time to adjust your baby's night time clothing. If your baby is wearing a vest and nightie or babygro and is swaddled to sleep, then remove their vest. Just one single layer cotton cellular blanket is fine.

If your baby sleeps in their cot in a sleeping bag, please read the tog rating on the sleeping bag, carefully.

If you are unsure what to put your baby in, according to the tog rating and room temperature, I have listed a guide for you below. Do remember this is only a guide. If your baby's body is warm, then they are the correct temperature. Don't worry if their hands and feet feel a little chilly.

It is almost impossible to guess the temperature of your baby's room so use a thermometer. The bath thermometer can also be used in your baby's room and don't forget the baby listening monitor will have the temperature on it too.

Bedrooms often heat up during the day and are then really warm when you come to put your little one to bed. Pull the blackout blind and drawer the curtains during the day. This will certainly help to keep the room cool.

A good idea would be to buy a fan. There are some very efficient, quiet fans on the market so do have a look before they sell out.

Keep your baby cool so you can all enjoy a good nights sleep.
